Things to do
There is so much to explore in the area surrounding Gavin's parents farm, Celtic Roots Equestrian--the history, the beaches, the hiking trails, the little shops, and some of our favourite haunts--and we would love for you to enjoy it all!

A wonderful place to spend the weekend or a day. There are great trails for walking, hiking, and biking, beautiful beaches for swimming - I recommend 3rd beach - and perfect spots for picnicking. You can rent a canoe and paddle around Kettle's Lake, which is home to a wide variety of wildlife including loons, turtles, beavers, otters, herons, and of course fish. You can also go fishing on Kettle's Lake or visit the Park Store for snacks like ice cream, chips, drinks, and s'mores supplies. If you go, be on the lookout for a unicorn deer!

Trans-Canada Trail
Wye Valley Rd

On the outskirts of Midland, just before Sainte Marie Among the Hurons and the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, and across the river from the Martyr's Shrine, is one of the most idyllic portions of the Trans-Canada Trail. The trail weaves through ruins and willows, alongside a lazy river, with the Shrine emerging from the tree tops on the hill side.
This is a lovely spot for a picnic, fishing, or a great starting place for a walk or bike ride. Following the riverside trail under the highway overpass, there is a delightful old railway bridge overlooking Sainte Marie. Today the bridge is only used for people fishing, biking, or enjoying a little walk.
It is accessible by turning on to Wye Valley rd., off of Hwy 12. It's also great because its free.
It is one of our favourite spots. We took our prom photos there all those years ago when we were teenagers...

Ontario’s first European Community, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons was the headquarters for the French Jesuit Mission to the Huron Wendat people. In 1639, the Jesuits, along with French lay workers, began construction of a fenced community that included barracks, a church, workshops, residences, and a sheltered area for Native visitors. After extensive archaeological and historical research, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons is now recreated on its original site, where the mission’s compelling story is brought to life. Visit the Interpretive Museum and themed gift shop, and complete your stay with a delicious meal in Restaurant Sainte-Marie.

The beaches along Tiny Rd. N are some of the most beautiful in Ontario, and the natural wonder of the area. Their soft sandy shores go on for hundreds of meters into clear water. On a sunny summer day there is rarely a better place to be. There is also a great smaller beach at the end of Sandy Bay rd. close to the farm. To park close to the beaches you will need a permit, which are only attainable if you are a resident. There are always parking options though. Some of the beaches have parking lots such as Balm Beach, and others, if you're willing to walk five minutes, have parking further up the concession which does not require a permit.
